About
Dr. J. Michael Duncan, Ph.D., P.E. is University Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech, and Director of the Virginia Tech Center for Geotechnical Practice and Research. For the past 40 years he has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on foundation engineering and other geotechnical engineering subjects, has supervised research on soil properties and analytical studies, and has served as a consultant on a wide range of geotechnical engineering projects. He has received awards for teaching excellence from UC Berkeley and Virginia Tech, and awards for his contributions to geotechnical engineering practice from ASCE and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He has been elected to membership in the National Academy of Engineering, and is an Honorary Member of ASCE. [1]
